An old connection from Newcastle’s early internet days

I recently had a meeting in the psyborg® studio with Jason—an old connection from Newcastle’s early internet days.

Back in the late ’90s, Jason was co-founder of iimage, one of the region’s pioneering web firms. Around the same time, I was cutting my teeth as a junior web designer at Total Internet Centre (TIC)—one of the very first places in Newcastle to offer public access to the internet. It was the wild west of the web, and we were both unknowingly part of it.

Fast forward to 2007. I’d just launched psyborg®, and one of my first major gigs was contracting to NIB Health Funds to help reimagine their site in the early Web 2.0 era. Jason was there too—working as a developer on their software team.

We crossed paths again years later at a NewyTechPeople party, where the dots started connecting.

And here we are now—sitting in my studio, discussing branding for Jason’s next chapter.

Sometimes paths don’t just cross—they converge.

It’s a reminder that Newcastle’s tech scene has been quietly building since the dial-up days. And for those of us who’ve been here since the beginning, this next wave feels both familiar and full of potential.
