Steps to Connect GMail to your Domain Name

Steps to Connect GMail to your Domain Name

To connect a domain name to a Gmail account and send emails from that domain, you’ll need to use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite). Here’s a simplified step-by-step guide:

1. Purchase a Domain

If you haven’t already, purchase a domain name. We’re a domain name reseller, so contact us to learn more.

2. Sign Up for Google Workspace

  • Go to the Google Workspace website (https://workspace.google.com/).
  • Click “Get Started” and follow the prompts to set up your account. You’ll need to provide your business name, number of employees, and your current email address.
  • When prompted, enter your domain name.

3. Verify Domain Ownership

  • Google Workspace will ask you to verify that you own the domain. This is usually done by adding a TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings.
  • Follow the instructions provided by Google Workspace to add the TXT record through your domain registrar’s website.
  • After adding the record, go back to Google Workspace and click “Verify.”

4. Set Up Email with Your Domain

  • Once your domain is verified, you can set up email addresses using your domain (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.com).
  • In the Google Workspace Admin console, go to “Users” and add new users or aliases as needed.

5. Update DNS Records for Email Delivery

  • To send and receive emails using your domain, you’ll need to update your domain’s DNS settings with MX records provided by Google Workspace.
  • Go to the Admin console, navigate to “Apps” > “Google Workspace” > “Gmail” > “Setup,” and you’ll find the MX records you need to add.
  • Add these MX records through your domain registrar’s website.

6. Send Email Using Your Domain

  • Once the MX records are updated, you can send emails using your new email address.
  • Sign in to Gmail with your Google Workspace account, and compose a new email. Your new email address should appear as the “From” address.

Remember that DNS changes can take some time to propagate, so it might take a few hours before you can send and receive emails using your new domain-based email address.
