Catastrophe
Experiments in AI Art.
AI-generated imagery often produces unexpected results—glitches, distortions, compositional chaos. The question is whether those accidents become catastrophes or discoveries.
This series deliberately explores the breaking points of AI art generation. Push parameters beyond conventional settings. Request impossible compositions. Combine contradictory style references. See what emerges when you intentionally exceed the algorithm’s design constraints.
Traditional creative work minimises errors. You sketch, refine, perfect. Digital tools offer undo functions and infinite iteration. The goal is controlled precision.
AI art generation inverts that relationship. The most interesting outputs often emerge from prompts that confuse the model. Contradictory instructions force the algorithm into compromise decisions no human artist would make. Those compromises create visual results that feel genuinely novel.
For commercial creative work, this matters because clients increasingly want “something nobody’s seen before”. Traditional design methods produce variations on familiar patterns. AI-generated chaos can produce genuinely unfamiliar starting points—raw material for human designers to refine into usable concepts.
The skill is recognising which catastrophes contain useful DNA. Most generated chaos is just noise. But occasionally, the algorithm produces compositional relationships or colour combinations that spark genuine creative direction.
These experiments document that search process. Controlled catastrophes. Intentional failures. Productive destruction.
Some disasters build better foundations.
