Max’s Graphic Design Work Experience
This week we had Max from Year 10 at Swansea High School join us for work experience as a budding Graphic Designer!
Max dove into the world of Adobe Illustrator, learning the ins and outs of vector graphics while designing custom icons. It’s been great to see his enthusiasm shine in the studio. Great work, Max. We’re excited to see where your design journey takes you!
Work experience placements serve multiple purposes. Students gain realistic industry exposure beyond school curriculum. Studios get fresh perspective from people encountering professional workflows for the first time. The questions students ask often reveal assumptions professionals no longer question.
Teaching design fundamentals forces clarity. Explaining why vector graphics matter, how layers work, why certain tools exist. This requires stripping away accumulated shortcuts and articulating first principles. That process benefits everyone involved.
Year 10 represents critical timing. Students make subject choices affecting university pathways. One week in actual studio environment provides concrete reference point school career advisors can’t deliver. Does design work match their assumptions? Do they enjoy the reality versus the idea?
Adobe Illustrator makes excellent introduction point. Vector graphics teach spatial thinking, precision, systematic construction. Icon design contains complete workflow—concept, sketch, refinement, production—compressed into manageable timeframe.
Lake Macquarie benefits when local businesses engage with schools. Students see viable career paths don’t require leaving the region. Studios build relationships with future talent pool. Community strengthens through practical connection.
