Got the tree … lights are up … my kids are happy. All is right in the world.
Small rituals anchor perspective. December arrives with project deadlines, client urgencies, business planning pressure. The Christmas tree interrupts that momentum completely. Everything stops for family tradition.
Kids don’t care about quarterly targets or strategic positioning. They care whether the tree goes up on schedule, lights work properly, familiar decorations appear in expected places. That clarity cuts through business complexity immediately.
Running a creative business means constant balancing between commercial demands and personal priorities. Work expands infinitely if you let it. Client needs always feel urgent. There’s perpetually more to do.
Family rituals create non-negotiable boundaries. The tree happens regardless of workload. Kids’ happiness matters more than finishing that proposal tonight. These aren’t productivity compromises—they’re priority corrections.
The phrase “all is right in the world” acknowledges deliberate simplification. Global problems exist. Business challenges persist. Personal concerns remain. But this moment—tree decorated, lights working, kids satisfied—creates complete perspective reset.
Creative work benefits from these interruptions. Stepping away from screens, solving physical problems (untangling lights, balancing tree), participating in non-commercial activity—this mental reset produces better work afterward.
Sometimes the best business decision is ignoring business completely.
